HCRA: Academic Study

HCRA faculty are actively engaged in training masters and doctoral students in several programs within the Harvard School of Public Health as well as throughout the university. Detailed information on HSPH programs is available on the School's main website as well as at the links included in the summary below.

HCRA faculty are involved extensively in the Exposure, Epidemiology and Risk Program. This program is designed to integrate knowledge across a variety of disciplines, to enable our graduates to investigate and mitigate heath risks associated with environmental and occupational hazards and provide scientific evidence for sound environmental and health policies. The program includes coursework in exposure assessment, environmental epidemiology, risk assessment, and industrial hygiene (including ergonomics and safety).

In addition, HCRA faculty direct the Environmental Science and Risk Management degree program jointly offered by the departments of Environmental Health and Health Policy and Management. This program provides doctoral students with an integrated education in environmental science, risk analysis, and decision making.

HCRA faculty also participate in the Doctoral Program in Health Policy awarded by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. This is a collaborative program among five Harvard University faculties: Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Harvard Business School, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, and John F. Kennedy School of Government.

HCRA sponsors several continuing professional education courses taught in the US and Europe for working professionals within industry, government, universities, consulting groups, law firms, trade associations and others interested in environmental health risk issues. Topics include risk analysis, risk perception and communication, economic methods for analyzing policies and regulations, and similar topics. These courses are listed on our workshops and seminars page.
